Kalfafellsstadur à Höfn (Islande) - Kalfafellsstadur to Höfn (Iceland)

Not much to say today, really. It's the third day with strong facing wind. It was not as hard as yesterday because I "only" paddled 65km (about 40 miles) and it hasn't been raining so much but I'm happy to be in Höfn.

Tomorrow, I take the bus towards the North of the island because I have finished to cycle along the South coast... and because I am staying only 14 days on the island, I also want to see the North.
Tonight, I will make myself a little pleasure as I will have some lobsters, the specialty of this fishermen village. It's going to cost me a fortune, but after all, I sleep in camp grounds and eat chineese noodles for a long time so I can allow this to myself.

Svinafell à Kalfafellsstadur (Islande) - Svinafell to Kalfafellsstadur (Iceland)

Je me suis battu.

After the night in my tent extremely humid, I got again awaken by the rain... it continues... not cool... but when you have to go, you have to go. So, after saying goodbye under the rain to my friends from Alsace who were sleeping in a guest house nearby, I hit the road direction to the East... the East where... the wind comes from... the wind and the rain... no, in fact, not the wind and the rain, THE STORM !

Today, I experienced HELL ! It's been the worst day I have ever endured so far in my trip. The wind was so strong that sometimes, my speed was 5km/h (approx 3miles/h) ! The wind blasts were violent, the rain was hitting my hard. I was really soaked.......... But.... I struggled. I cycled 77km (approx 40 miles) in these conditions today. I am empty of energy. My tendinitis is quite painful tonight. But this experience made me understand that I am able to go above the limits I know. Today, I was a warrior. Nothing could stop me. I was very hungry because I only stopped at 1:30pm to have lunch so it was pretty long without having even small cookies or some fruits just as I do usually. I did not drink a lot either.
But I still managed to take some shots of the Breidamerkurjökull glacier (I find them great)

I put underneath pictures of my tent being drying at the camp ground I found tonight. It's not raining anymore... I hiope tomorrow will be better with less wind...

Kirkjubaejarklaustur (Islande) à Svinafell - Kirkjubaejarklaustur to Svinafell (Iceland)

At about 6:30 this morning, I got awaken by the rain that was hitting hard my tent. It sounded bad for the coming day... and I wasn't wrong. A terrible day, with facing wind almost all the way long and a some rain. But fortunately, I managed to take some pictures of the glaciers. Well, it's not always easy to take pictures when it's raining.

As a matter of a fact, despite a “waterproof” jacket, after a while, the humidity finishes by invading all my clothes, including the pockets so it's difficult to keep the camera away from humidity... But anyway, I managed to make those pictures of the glacier Skeidararjökull. The black sand field was amasing.
By some funny chance, some friends from Alsace are on the island at the same time as me. So we planned to meet in the Skaftafell area. So Milaine, Didier, Axel and myself visited the Skaftafell site (it's another glacier), which was amasing.

Then I settled my tent in the next village, on the soaked grass. I am scared I will sleep in a swimming pool tonight.
Then we went for a restaurant, my first one since I am on the island. I ate local lamb, delicious ! It was really nice to see friends and to spend the night with them after my terrible day of cycling.

Skogar à Kirkjubaejarklaustur (Islande) - Skogar to Kirkjubaejarklaustur (Iceland)

112km (approx 70 miles) on the counter. I scary day for me as I paddled with the fear to get the showers from the black clouds that I had in line all day long. But at the end of the day, I got lucky and never got wet... but I honestly was lucky.

Unfortunately, not much to see today, the trip was rather boring, except for a few steep pents that I had to climb, especially the one right before Vik.
I stopped in Vik to have lunch and to enjoy the nice area, with some nice rock into the see and an incredible and beautiful large beach of black sand.

Anyway, I reached Kirkjubaejarklaustur (I challenge you to pronounce it correct the first time) at about 5:00pm, where I made a 5km kicking (approx 3 miles), so I could see the local waterfall, the lake where the waterfall comes from and the famous little hexagonal tales naturally made of silica. But there was no explaining sign to explain where these come from. What a shame...

One last thing, check this out, this gives you an idea on what the Icelandic people need to move... and it's not exaggerated, they REALLY need it.
