Colonia Del Sacramento & Montevideo (Uruguay) - Colonia Del Sacramento & Montevideo (Uruguay)

Before leaving the area, I want to do a small tour in Uruguay. Uruguay is a relatively small country compared to its neighbors Brazil and Argentina. It is accessible by boat from Buenos Aires. So I took the ferry to my first step is Sacramento de Colonia (called Colonia by the locals). A small town where traces of the past show that this place was quite strategic. The colonial style of the downtown is charming. But obviously, without photo, you won't be able to imagine anything. I spend a whole day in Colonia and the next day I go hitchhiking in Montevideo, the capital. People here are not very used to hitchhike but I managed to make the 200km in less than 4 hours. This is not bad considering I had four different drivers. Here I am outside of the city. I take a bus to go downtown. For the record, on the bus, I managed to catch a pickpocket who stole my wallet (with my bank card). And all passengers have started to insult him, quite an unusual scene to be part of. Me, with my big backpack on my back and my little bag on my stomach, I could not do much but he would have deserved a good correction. The bus driver quickly opened the door for him to escape. Either he was protecting the thief or he did not want problems in the bus...
Anyway, I arrived in Montevideo where I am welcomed and hosted by Andres. Remember, Andres is the architect that I met in Salta (Argentina). Little fact about Andres, he is the proud owner of a white Renault 4L very well maintained. I'll have some very nice days in his company and his friends. We will spend the night of "the end of the world" (12/12/12) together. A nice evening where the Mayan calendar eventually let us enter in a new era without too much trouble. The city of Montevideo is quite nice. I visited a couple of museums... But the time to leave has already come. Time to head to Bogota to reunite with my friend Charlie to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve with him and Hannah, his girlfriend.
A brief last pop-by in Gouz's and here I am back on the road...
Sadly, again, no picture to show you because of the theft.
