Santiago à El Bolson (Chili et Argentine) - Santiago to El Bolson (Chile and Argentina)

After a brief pop at Augo's in Santiago, I am determined to reach the Penisula Valdez on the other side of the continent, on the Atlantic coast because I know that you can see many marine animals down there. And I decided to make the long journey hitchhiking. I leave Santiago with a city bus and I start hitchhiking at the first motorway toll. I'm picked up by two nice guy with whom I travel for a few hours. Then I catch a trucker who goes far enough south which makes me happy ... except ... it is not a good person. The guy is a misogynist, racist and fascist. A person with a horrible hateful speech on all points. According to him, the place of women is in the kitchen and Bolivians and Peruvians are the plague of his country. He also asked me to throw a plastic wrapper out of the window, which I refuse to do, he will take care of it 5 minutes later. What an awful mentality. After a while, I could not stend him so I just pretended to sleep. Over the 7 hours I spent in his truck, I spent 5 hours to feign sleeping.

Fortunately, I spent my first night behind a gas station far away from him ! The next day, I'm progressing well, I'm picked up by several all nice truck drivers or car drivers.

I arrive end of the day on the southern border that I pass walking. Here the landscape is strange. A volcanic eruption a few years earlier covered the wooded area of several tens of cm of ash.

On my last lift of the day, I ask the truck driver (a super nice guy, father of 8 children) to stop and I leave in the middle of nowhere, because along the Nahuel Huapi Lake, I discovered a beautiful landscape and decides to spend the night there.

To go on shore, I'll make an nasty fall of more than 2 meters high with my big backpack in the back and my small bag (with a computer) on the belly. Fortunately more fear than hurt me but I'm now covered with dust. Never mind, I have here a lake for myself as a bathtub. I spend the rest of the end of the day to set up my camp, take a bath and enjoy the moon and campfire.

The next day, I am picked up by a very nice people again.

By mid afternoon, I arrived in the village of El Bolson after more than 1000 miles hitchhiking in two days ... and this is a step that changed my trip ... Stay tuned, more about it in the next post ...
