Squamish & Whistler (Canada) - Squamish & Whistler (Canada)

22 to 26/10/2011
So here I am, leaving Victoria to reach again my friend Francis, remember, Francis is the car-pooler with whom I traveled from Montreal to Banff. In the bus heading to the ferry, I meet Falon, a very nice girl who actually explains me that there are still regions where it's possible to see wild buffaloes. I cannot remember the exact place but it gives me an idea for the future... We will spend the whole trip in the bus, the ferryboat and the skytrain to discuss about travels as she's also a travel freak and has also already made a bike trip.
Anyway, I arrive in Vancouver and takes the bus that goes to the North in the direction of Squamish. Obviously there is no (cheap and practical) bus that goes to this city. So I get out at the last bus stop, which is actually the Horseshoe Bay stop, where a few days earlier I took the ferry to go to Nanaimo and then Tofino, you're following me ?. Ok, so my last solution is to reach Squamish by hitchhiking again. After half an hour standing unsuccessful on the side of the road and only ten car passed in front of me, a vagrant approaches and tells me that I'll never be picked up at this place. First I was a bit careful but I get on quickly with the guy who had bad outlook but great generous spirit. He offers to walk me to a place where I have a lot more chances to be picked up. After 20 minutes to climb a pretty steep trail with my bags, we arrive on the main road that goes to Squamish and Whistler. I get to a strategical location... and there, after 15 minutes waiting, an incredible things happened. A limousine stopped. First I thought that the guy was stopping to ask for his way... but not... non non... he was picking me up. I don't know how to describe the situation, I am so excited just thinking about it. I had so much troubles to be picked up in Canada when hitchhiking and I finish with an apotheosis. The driver, an indo-Pakistanis guy very nice, tells me it's the first time he stops for a hitchhiker but that "God will certainly give it back to him". I hope for him. Here a few photo shots of the car in which there was a bar, a phone, LDC screens and neon lights nightclub style. Ahahah ! Smashing ! Thank you to this guy who made my day !

Once back in reality, here I am in Squamish. Francis comes to pick me up and introduces me to his family. In fact, he is hosted by his sister, Eve, Eric (Eve's husband) and the little Zack their 6 months baby boy. Eve and Eric kindly accepted to host me as well.
The day after, I am visiting together with Eve and Zack the university of Squamish, in which Eric works, a dream-alive university. The pictures are self-speaking, aren't they ? Who wants to study or work there ?

We, then, take the road to Whistler, the ski resort that hosted the downhill ski competitions of the Vancouver Olympics. The resort is high standards, a bit like Courchevelle in Franche. But it's a nice place to visit. Eve have been working there for several years, thus we meet a lot of people who know her and who work onsite at that moment but who are rather relaxed as this is the low season.

The day goes well but will finish in apotheosis. Indeed, during our last walk in one of Whistler's neighbor, the Rainbow Park along the Alta Lake, we will pass by the park, in which stands there, very relaxed, a brown bear ! FINALLY !!!!!!!!! After almost two months in Canada, I finally see a bear !! And this bear that I have been waiting to see for so long, is beautiful ! The animal was about 30 meters away from us. With all the respect due, I took a few shots and we then went back home with a big smile on our lips. It was also the first time bear for Zack.

The day after, cycling around, I will see again another bear. But this time a bigger one, kind of putting troubles in a horses park. Nice daring sequence...

After all these crazy adventures happened in three days, I leave my friends that I must thank once more for their top hospitality. Thank you to Eve and Eric for their comfortable sofa and to Francis for all that he has done for me. I leave the region and the country as I take the plane to Mexico...
