Salar d'Uyuni jour 3 (Bolivie) - Uyuni salt flats day 3 (Bolivia)

For the third day, we wake up very early, around 6am, especially fresh, the wind is very strong and as the thermometer shows we have 21°F, so -22°C.

We go through a volcanic zone with geysers...

...then some hot water basins where we meet Kristen and Gary, the couple we met in La Paz.

But this place is a hell hole tourists we do not linger, we take the road through the desert Dali, sort of large plain strangely looking a Dali painting... But Dali has never set foot here.

Christobal then drops us as planned at the border with Chile. The first unpleasant surprise is that our friendly driver leaves us in front of a building and assures it is a store where we can buy something to make a "sandwich with ham and cheese". What a mistake. The building is closed and there is no one inside. And the border is more than 5km away and this is where we wanted to go to find an accommodation for the night after hiking around. Luckily, a truck passing by picks up us and gets us off at the border.

We decided to climb the volcano which is just next to the lagoon that stands next to the border post, it seems steep, but we have no fear. But all this was before the ban coming from the Bolivian border officer. Because we are in a natural park, so there are some rules to follow, especially the obligation to take local guides, or rather enrich a corruption system in place to dry off money of the tourists. This is not the first time this has happened, nor the last... So, we finally decide "for a ride out" and go for a swim in the natural pools located on the other side of the large lagoon, which will eventually be a walk in the hell of South Lipez. The soil composed of pebbles and ocher sand is beautiful but the wind is blowing so hard that, without exaggeration, we find it hard to stand, and the outlook is misleading therefore distances are larger than they are. So the return walk to the point that we had intended, eventually appears to be a long uphill battle of at least 15km.

Finally, we go back and take a good dinner. But still no shower after 3 days ...
