Départ le matin de chez Vintz et Manue. Je suis bien motivé, je passe faire les courses vite-fait, je fais le plein de nourriture car je pense que je vais en avoir besoin. La sortie de Montréal est plus longue que prévue. Montréal est super étendue en fait et je sors de la ville seulement aux alentours de midi... mais la suite de la route est tellement belle.

J'emprunte la route 138 qui longe le fleuve St Laurent. C'est magnifique, il reste encore beaucoup de maisons de style colonial et qui ont entre 200 et 300 ans. Vers 17h, je m'arrête chez un monsieur pour lui demander si je peux planter ma tente dans son arrière cour. Il accepte et me laisse aussi prendre une douche ce qui n'est pas un luxe car malgré la route plate, il a fait beau et j'ai pas mal transpiré. Bref, le temps de monter ma tente et de me faire bouffer par les moustiques (eh oui, mes bon vieux potes sont de retour) et voilà que la femme du Monsieur passe me proposer aussi de manger avec eux le soir. Comment refuser ??? Eh bien voilà comment se passe mon voyage, je rencontre des gens comme Maurice et Colette, des gens formidables et simples. Rien de compliqué juste de l'aide à un voyageur. Je trouve ça tout simplement formidable... et me redonne foi en l'humain tiens... J'en profite pour remercier encore Maurice et Colette pour leur charmant accueil.

Après un bon petit déjeuner que j'ai pris chez mes aimables hôtes, je continue à longer le St Laurent jusqu'à la ville de Trois Rivières, où je remonte vers le Nord pour visiter les anciennes Forges de St Maurice. C'est le premier site sidérurgique implanté au Canada il y a 300 ans.

J'ai bien sympatisé avec la guide, Hélène, qui rêve de faire le même voyage que moi... alors Hélène, si tu lis ce message, sache que c'est possible et pas si difficile que ça, il faut simplement le vouloir et s'en donner les moyens. Bref, si j'avais su j'aurais pris une photo de moi devant le four, Thierry La Fonderie devant un haut-fourneau, ça aurait été sympa. Il y a même au bord de la rivière un gisement de gaz naturel que l'on peut enflammer, c'est assez sympa à voir. Cet endroit d'appelle la Fontaine du Diable.

Bref, me voilà revenu vers Trois Rivières, il est déjà tard et sur mon chemin, un type me dépasse sur son vélo  et me demande :
" - Eh tu vas où avec ta remorque mon gars ?
- ben je longe la 138, je vais vers Québec
- Ah ouais ? Mais tu comptes pas y être ce soir ???! (c'est encore à 120km)
- Ben non, je cherche un endroit où dormir
- Ah ben si tu veux, tu viens domir chez moi... au fait moi c'est Robert, mais tout le monde m'appelle Bob"
Et voilà comment en deux soirs d'affilé, je découvre l'hospitalité québéquoise. Quel bonheur. Même si Bob est un type humble sans trop d'argent, il me reçoit chez lui. Du coup c'est moi qui régalerai ce soir, vu son frigo qui est bien vide. Je ne crois pas que Bob ait l'adresse de mon blog mais Bob, si tu lis ça, merci encore pour tout et à bientôt sur la route.

Le matin, Bob m'accompagne jusqu'à la basilique de Trois Rivières car il y cherche de l'eau bénite pour faire du pain.

Je repars donc de là et c'est là que je rencontre Yves, un québéquois à vélo qui se dirige vers Québec aussi. Nous décidons de faire la route ensemble. Et Yves est un type incroyable. Il travaille 6 mois dans l'année et le reste, il voyage. Il a déjà fait deux randonnées de 3500km de 6 mois chacunes (la Appalchian Trail et la Pacific Crest Trail pour ceux qui connaissent). Nous nous entendons tellement bien que nous passerons un jour supplémentaire à pédaler et à discuter de voyage et de toutes choses. En fin de deuxième journée, nous arrivons à Québec, la ville, où nous nous séparons mais c'est promis, nous nous reverrons un jour où l'autre.

Departure in the morning from Vintz and Manue's place. I'm pretty well motivated, I pop by a supermarket to do the groceries thinking I will need them indeed. The exit from Montréal is actually longer than expected as it's a wide city so I get out of the city only around noon, but what is waiting for me is so exciting.

I take the road 138 that goes along the St Laurent river. It is beautiful, there are still numerous houses with colonial style dating from 200 to 300 years. Around 5:00pm, I stop by a gentleman to ask him if I could stay in his backyard for the night with my tent. He accepts and let me have a shower, which is well deserved because, despite the flat road I had all day long, the sun has been shining and I have been sweating quite a lot. Anyway, I got assaulted by the mosquitoes (my dear friends are back) when settling my tent but the gentleman''s wife showed up to invite my for dinner. How could I refuse ?? So here it is, this is how my trip goes, I meet people like Maurice and Colette, marvelous and simple people. Nothing complicated, just the will to help a passing traveler. I find this amazing... it gives me hope and faith in the mankind. I take this opportunity to thank Maurice and Colette for their hospitality.

After a nice breakfast with Colette and Maurice, I hit the road again along the St Laurent river up until the town called Trois Rivières. There, I head North to visit the former Forges de St Maurice (St Maurice Foundry plant). This is the very first metallurgical plant implemented in Canada 300 years ago.

I chatted for quite a while with Hélène, the quide, who is dreaming to do the same trip as mine. Well Hélène, if you read this, just be aware that it is possible and not so difficult, you just need to really will to do it and give yourself the means to do it.
Anyway, stupidly, I forgot to take a picture in front of the oven there. Thierry La Fonderie in front of a metal casting oven would have been a nice one. On the shore of the river nearby, there was an earth gas leak which could be flamed. It's pretty amazing to observe, this place is called the Devil's Fontain.

Anyway, here I am, back in Trois Rivières, it's kind of late but on my way, a guy passes by me and asks :
" - Hey dude, where are you going with your trailer ?
-  Well, I'm heading towards Québec city on the 138.
- Really ? But you want to be there tonight ??
- No of course, I am looking for a place where to stay tonight.
- Well, you can stay at my place my friend. By the way, my name is Robert, but everyone calls me Bob"
So this is how, two nights in a raw, I can experience the Quebecois hospitality. Quel bonheur. Bob is quite an humble guy, short in money, but he still is going to host me. So it will be me who feeds to crowd tonight as his fridge is quite empty.
I don't think I left my blog address to Bob but in case he reads this, Bob, thanks a lot and see you soon on the road !

In the morning, Bob guides me to the Trois Rivières' basilica (church) as he goes there to pick up some blessed water to make bread.

So here I go again on the road and this is right there that I meet Yves, a guy from Quebec on a cycle, heading to Québec City. We decide to make the trip together. Yves is an incredible guy. He works 6 months in the year and the rest, he travels. He has already done the West and East coast trails (3500km each) in 6 months each. For the experts, the trails are the Appalchian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.
We got well together and spend an additional day paddling and discussing about travel and many other things. At the end of the second day, we reach Québec City, where we split, but, promised, we will see each other again.
