Montréal (Canada) – Montréal (Canada)

5 – 9/9/2011

My arrival in Montréal goes very well. As planned, Vincent alias Vinz', a guy I knew from Colmar and who lives now in Montréal for several years, is there to pick me up. The bike box fits very tight in the car, but it fits. So here we are at Vinz and Manue's place. Manue is Vinz' girlfriend, she's 100% from Quebec district, you can tell, she's proud of it. They are going to host me for some days so I can make my plans for the following weeks in Quebec and get some rest. It's pretty true that since Stockholm, I haven't had a lot of rest. My hosts may have found me a little quiet during my stay-over... During two days, I won't be the only host of the house as Myriam Caron, Manue's cousin, is also in Montréal with her son Manu, in order to promote on TV and radio her book called “Generation hang” that relates about suicide in young generations.
Anyway, I still found some time to visit a part of the city which is huge. The streets are pretty wide but the buildings are rarely high apart from in the downtown.

There is an Old Montréal quite touristic place but still, nice to see.

My best experience in terms of visit is the Mont Royal park, which is a huge park that rises as a hill in the very middle of the city. On the top, there is a belvedere where there is a great view on the downtown.

The unhabitants from Montréal are pretty nice, they have a quite strong accent too and are definitely not patient when driving their car. I managed to get myself several times into trouble because of my lack of attention on the road. Anyway, food wise, I am quite lucky as Manue and Vinz' are very good cooks and prepared some nice meals, notably with skwitchy cheese and some REAL **érable** sirup. On the last night, we went for dinner to have a local dish, which is called poutine, composed of chips and skwitchy cheese and other toppings based on customers' wish. I also retain the numerous and excellent beers made locally in micro-breweries.

I take this opportunity to thank Manue and Vinz for their nice welcome and hospitality. It was pretty good to spend some days with them. I hope they are not too much hungry that I emptied their fridge !
One last hit to the olympic stadium that contains the highest bended tour in the world and here I am, back on the road in the direction of Quebec city.

Boston (USA) – Boston (USA)

1/9/2011 – 4/9/2011

Flight from Reykjavik without problem, taxi course extremely expensive but I finaly reach Somerville, in Boston's suburb, where I meet Colin, a cyclist contacted via Warmshowers. Colin just arrived from work (it's approx. 9:00pm). I will stay in the flat he lives in officially with Tony and temporarly with 4 Croatian girls (Marina, Yvana, Yvana and Myrta) and a Ukrainian couple (Yaroslav and Olga). The atmosphere in the flat is very cool. I will spend 2 days in Boston to visit the city, eat gross things and get used to the jet lag. I take the opportunity to buy a new camera. I mainly visited the down-town, East and North ends, the charming district of St Charles and the Newburry street.

I regret I could not visit the Sciences Museum, Harvard and the MIT.
Right now I am in the bus heading to Montréal, 7.5 hours of coach. Incredible, in the bus, there is power supply for each seat and free Wifi. Everything is possible in America...
