À mi-chemin, je me
English :
Early in the morning, I woke up, it's
quite cold as we are in the North of the island, and under a thin
rain, I folded up my soaked tent. But after a great breakfast, I hit
the road towards Akureyri, I must be there before 5:00pm to take the
bus to Reykjavik. But I do not worry because I am heading South, on
the same road I took yesterday on over 30km (approx 20 miles) with a
facing wind so, today, I should have tail wind and so paddle easy...
well... yes except that on this island, the elements are against me
(or against the cyclists in general because speaking with other
cyclists, I realise that most of the people live the same nightmarre
as I do). So, indeed, this morning the wind blows from South-East, so
against me. I spent the whole morning insulting the wind, so unfair.
So once more, I had to paddle strong, forcing on my legs. About
half-way, I stopped at (to my humble opinion) the most beautiful
waterfall of the island, Godafoss (“God's watefall”).
For the rest of the track, I hit the
hardest hill of my trip so far, a col at 12% on over 4km (approx 2.5
miles), but I did not cheat (did not put a feet on the road), I
passed it and reached Akureyri, the second biggest “city” of the
country at 4:30pm. I took the bus heading to Reykjavik, ruining
myself for the ticket (around 80€). In the bus, I took the cold, I
really thought I was going to be ill but finally I am fine. I arrived
at 11pm in Reykjavik. At that time, under the rain, I had to find the
only camp ground of the city, check-in and settle my tent. What a
pleasure to sleep in a polyamid sheets all wet. I did not find the
courage to have a shower, I'll do this the day after the breakfast,
the clothes washing and a visit of the city.
