J'avais déjà passé une nuit à Guayaquil sur mon chemin entre Montañita et Baños, mais rien ne m'avait impressionné. Il n'y a, à vrai dire, pas beaucoup de choses à voir dans cette ville. Par-contre, il y a comme partout des gens intéressant à rencontrer, comme ce fût le cas avec la famille Farfan. Diego qui a accepeté de m'héberger via Coachsurfing vit avec ses deux tantes très sympa. Je resterai quelques jours chez lui en compagnie de 3 autres coachsurfers : Anne et Robin (Hollande) et Manuel (Suisse). Diego, Estefania (une amie à lui) et moi sommes allés courrir (Estefania prépare le Marathon de New York), ça faisait longtemps, j'ai adoré. Mes hôtes ainsi que mes compatriotes de canapé sont tous des personages hauts en couleur et nous avons passés de super moments ensemble. A noter le passage au restaurant du coin pour une spécialité locale, le crabe sauce à l'ail, un délice !

I spent one night before in Guayaquil on my way from Montañita to Baños and nothing really caught my attention. Let's face it, there is not much to see in this city (to my opinion). But, and like in every other place, there are interesting people to meet, as it was the case with the Frafan family. Diego who accepted to host me via Coach Surfing lives with his two nice aunts. I will stay a few days at their place together with 3 other coachsurfers : Anne and Robin (Holland) and Manuel (Switzerland). Diego, Estefania (a friend of him) and me went for running, it had been a while, I loved it. My hosts and my coachmates are all funny people and we had great moments together. To be noted, our diner at the corner restaurant to eat a local specialty : crabs with garlic sauce, delicious !

Je n'avais entendu que de bonnes choses de Baños et... j'ai été pas mal déçu. Déjà, c'est ma première mauvaise expérience de Coachsurfing. Enfin disons que c'est la première fois que je suis déçu. Car en effet, Juan, la personne qui m'accueille (il a été un peu forcé par mon amie Ariana, rencontrée au Guatemala et qui m'avait recommandé auprès de lui) n'est pas très communicatif. C'est simple, j'ai échangé deux phrases avec lui. Ses colocataires ne sont pas mieux (3 hommes) puisqu'ils ne semblent être intéressé que par les filles coach surfeuses qui sont là en même temps que moi. Peu importe, après tout, ils sont assez sympa pour m'héberger, et puis j'ai tout-de-suite sympathisé avec Ola, une australienne d'origines libanaises qui parle parfaitement l'Espagnol. Avec elle et son amie, nous allons visiter la région. Ensemble, nous allons entendre le tout premier matin l'éruption du volcan Tungurahua tout proche (rare puisque se passe tous les 6 mois)...

... nous rendre à la cascade "Pailón del Diablo"

... puis à la cascade Machay où je ne pourrai m'empêcher de prendre un bain dans la rivière malgré l'eau bien froide...

... petite anecdote, en voulant prendre une photo de Ola et sa copine, j'ai glissé en arrière et ai fait une chutte de quelques mètres dans des arbres, je l'ai échappé belle et l'appareil photo aussi... pourtant, c'était écrit que c'est dangeureux, ahahahahah !

... et le dernier jour, faire la ballade "La Virgen".

Un grand merci à Ola et son amie (je ne me souviens vraiment plus de son nom, j'ai honte, mais je rencontre tellement de gens) pour les supers moments de convivialité dans cette maison à l'ambiance bizarre.

I only heard good things about Baños and... honestly, I have been quite disappointed. First-of-all, it's my first bad experience with Coachsurfing. Well, let's say that it's the first time that I am disappointed. Juan, the guy who hosted me (a little forced by my friend Ariana met in Guatemala and who recommended me to him) is not really talkative. And when I think about it, I just exchanged two phrases with him. His flatmates aren't better (3 guys) because they seem to be interested only in the girls from coach surfing that are here at the same time. Anyway, after all, they are nice enough to host me, I shouldn't complain and I immediately got friendly with Ola, one of the coachsurfer from Australia with Lebanese roots and who speak perfectly Spanish. Together with one of her friend, we will visit the area. We will hear the very first morning the eruption of the volcano Tunguarhua located very near (it's rare because it happens apparently only every 6 months).

... we'll go together at the "Pailón del Diablo" waterfall...

... then to the Macahy waterfall where I could not prevent myself from taking a bath in the river in spite of the freezing water...

... a little anecdote, while trying to take a photo of Ola and her friend, I slipped and fell back and dropped of several meters in trees. It was close from something more serious but I got lucky and the camera as well... I was warned though, it was written, ahahahaha !

... and on the last day, we did "La Virgen" hike.

A big thank you to Ola and her friend (I can't remember her name, I'm ashamed, but I meet so many people) for the great conviviality moments in this weird atmosphere house.
