Montreal 2 - Montreal 2

As mentioned before, I am hosted by Luc. I will spend my week visiting a few other places in Montreal, including the rock bar "Les Foufounes Electriques" (on the last picture, Luc and myself are smoking a cigar offered  by Fred upon my departure).

But the biggest even of theses days is the expedition in France of my faithful companion. Hence, my tendinitis re-appeared on several painful occurrences, which made me deciding to stop travelling with my bike. So, this is with emotion that I said goodbye to my bike and my trailer. I am rather sad but not disappointed. The trip continues for me anyway.
Apart from this, I need to thank very much Connie, Luc and the kids for their astonishing welcome. See you guys back in France, right ?

Chalet de Cédric - Cédric's chalet

Français :
23/09/2011

Upon my return in Montreal, I meet with my friend Luc, former class mate at univerity back in France and moreover partner in the French universities robots championship. He is going to host me for several day in spite of his rather small apartment where he lives with his wife and two kids (4 and 2.5 years old). So I meet his charming family. First, his Connie, a pure Made in Montreal girl from the English speaking district but speaking fluently French too; then the kids Enzo and Emie.
As soon as introduction was finished that we hit the road (about 2.5 hours North of Montreal) to spend the weekend in the chalet of Luc's friend, Cédric. We will spend the Saturday and part of the Sunday to set in place Cédric's Jacuzzi, but also to do "pédalo" on the lake and philo-talk with fresh beers. At the end, a great weekend, thanks to Luc for introducing me to his friends and Cédric for his hospitality.

Baie St Paul, Tadoussac et les parcs de Charlevoix (Canada) - Baie St Paul, Tadoussac and the parks of Charlevoix disctrict (Canada)

Français :
19/09/2011

Departure direction to the East from Sacha and Didier's. I expect to reach rapidly Baie St Paul by hitch-hiking. But this was without counting on the hate of Quebec people towards the hitch-hikers. It will have taken me from 8:30am until 3pm to travel 90km (approx 55miles) and to be taken by 6 different cars (actually 7, but that's another story that I'll tell later).Arriving in Baie St Paul, I could not go to any of the national parc from the area so I settled on the camp ground called "Le Balcon Vert", kind of relax and welcoming camp where the kitchen are well equipped, showers are free and the staff very nice.
I wish to share a funny anecdote with you. On my first trip hitch-hiking, the nice guy who stopped to pick me up left me on a motorway loop. This is not an ideal place to do hitch-hiking... and moreover it's forbidden. Anyway, after 40 minutes waiting there, a nice guy stops and offers me to drop me 2 exits further, where I will be able to be "picked up more easily". I can't refuse, seeing the low success I have at that place. So we arrive 5 minutes later to the exit, but when I take my bag from the boot of the car, I  realise that the camera bag (with the camera in it) that I got attached on it there is missing. I checked everywhere but it's obvious, I lost it on the motorway loop, I know it because I am sure I have seen it attached to the bag when I was there. The guy then offers me to drive me back there but he needs first to go to a bike shop. I accept of course. But the guy takes ages in the shop, I believe we stayed at least one hour in the shop, I was dead worry. Come on, my camera, brand new, bought after the death of my dear former camera who lost his life in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. But anyway, the guy drops me at the opposite motorway exit and after crossing the motorway with all my bags and stuff, I find the camera bag with the camera in it. "Pfffew !!" what a relief. So, upon the pick up, I immediately attach solid the camera bag onto my bag, but while doing this, a police car stops. The policeman tells me "Sir, do you know that you do not have the right to be there ?
- Yes Sir, I am sorry, it the guy who picked me up who actually dropped me there.
- Ok, then get in the car, I will drop you a little later where it is safer to hitch-hike."
So here I am in a Quebec police car discussing with a kind policeman... and he drops me... exactly where the guy before wanted to drop me. A very unsuccessful place to actually hitch-hiking, but at least I am not outlaw.

Last night, I met a nice French couple, Elizabeth and Alain, who come from Toulon. They kindly accepted to drive me at the national park Hautes gorges de la rivière Malbaie. Eventually, we will visit the park all together. We actually did the hardcore hike of the park called "L'accropole des Draveurs", a trail of 11.2km (approx 6 miles) (it's a return trip to the top of one of the mountain that compose the flanks of the river's groove), which has a altitude difference of 900m. Up there, people see the world differently. It's a special place, that drives you to calmness and admiration of the wildness of Things.

Elizabeth and Alain are good hikers and walk pretty fast, the cadence was quite hectic. So we'll do the hike in less than 5 hours including a decent break on the top. We then will do some little trails along the river's groove and will pass by the dam where in the past, wood workers were dragging the wood trunks down the river.

21/09/2011
Today it's raining, the weather is bad, so basically, no way for me visit any park, especially since I have no car... but fortunately, Elizabeth and Alain do have a car and we go together for a road trip. We'll make a big loop, passing by Tadoussac where we will see belougas and humpback whale from the ferry. Then we'll go up to Saguenay and then drive back to the camp site.

Today, the weather is not so bad but the clouds are on their way. My French friends drop me in the town of Baie St Paul and leave to Montreal. I thank them greatly for their help and hospitality. I do hitch hiking to reach the park of Grands Jardins. I waited so long on the side of the road that I am again disappointed by the anti hitch-hikers attitude of the Quebecois. After one hour and half, I was finally picked-up by a nice guy. He drops me not far away from the park, as soon as I put my thumb up to finish the trip, another car stops, it happens to be a French couple.
So I arrive at the park and the story is simple, I decided to do the full monty, the big tour, which is something  like 15km (about 9 miles). I should do this within a reasonable amount of time unless I stop every five minutes to take pictures... and it will be the case. This park is so amasing, especially at this period of the year. The colors are really extraordinary.

And when I don't get dragged by the magnificent landscapes, it's the wildlife (animals, mushrooms, blueberries) that catches my attention.

I did the full hike almost on my own, it was great ! I encourage people to have a look at my pictures because I took plenty of them and they should be nice even if the weather wasn't ideal to give me enough light to make really good pictures.
